Bournemouth has always had the reputation of being 'God's Waiting Room' -
a town full of old people waiting to die, and any seaside town where the weather is milder is bound to get a lot of retired people wanting to live out their retirement in a pleasant atmosphere- BUT - Bournemouth has a large university and scores of language schools and the town is packed with youngsters from all over the world, absolutely packed, and the young blood and youth brings a vitality to the town which is addictive. It is NOT an old peoples home at all but a thriving cosmopolitan town, with a world famous orchestra and a tourist trade which is the envy of all other tourist towns in the UK today. Bournemouth is known as the 'Night Club Capital of the South Coast' - and there are many spectacular - straight - nightclubs here which you would think you were in New York or even London ... not Bournemouth. Many large restaurants and hotels are buying into the town and even building brand new hotels which shows that big business has faith to invest heavily in the town. It is said to have Britains 5th largest gay population and this is obvious when the sun shines
- as with the spectacular STUDLAND BEACH - a naturist beach popular with gay men, on a sunny day this area is packed with people. Owned and operated by the NATIONAL TRUSTand monitored for any naughty stuff going on in the dunes, you can easily spend a day in the sun and forget the world.... ![]() a local river walk
![]() There are many - MANY - award winning parks, stately homes, gardens
and stunning places for long walks with the dog -( see above pictures ) or to sit and relax in the sub tropical gardens full of palm trees and other plants not usually found in the UK. River walks. COMPTON ACRES is a very special and wonderful series of gardens -
well worth an afternoon visit. Ancient headlands at HENGISBURY HEAD Countryside. 1,000 year old priory at CHRISTCHURCH and many fine National Trust properties within easy reach of us here if you have a car. Dorset is also a WORLD HERITAGE SITE with its Jurassic Coast
and the neighbouring town of POOLE has some of the most expensive homes in the UK, with hundreds of multi million £ homes with views over the bay that are to die for. ![]() A view of part of Poole
Corfe Castle and WAREHAM are a good day out and you can even
sit in the very chair in a restaurant in Wareham where LAURENCE OF ARABIA actually sat and dined and at MORETON, DORSET you can visit his grave in the most beautiful village of Moreton. ( When I was 17, I met this old boy who lived in Moreton who had been brought down to Dorset on the back of Laurence's motor bike for a horny weekend together - remember Laurence was gay - and he had stayed the rest of his life in the Dorset and Moreton area. Within a month Laurence killed himself on the very same motorbike in a tragic accident. ) ![]() CORFE CASTLE
We are a 20 minute drive from the NEW FOREST which you will have driven throiugh, even if on the motorway, if coming from London and this mighty forest has many wonderful things to visit likeLYNDHURST and the village made famous by a White Witch at BURLEY. Another lovely town just a 30 minute drive away is SHAFTESBURY where the Hovis advert made famous GOLD HILL which most people assumed was in the north of England.
